”The Best Damn Bloody Ever.

The first glass of Chief’s Bloody Mary was mixed in 2001 when Waddy’s Bar & Grill opened in Hudson, South Dakota. What began as a few Bloody Marys on Sunday afternoons has grown into a retail manufacturing facility.

In 2001, Chief (Larry) started working behind the bar on Sundays, mixing up his secret Bloody Mary recipe. Chief’s Bloody Mary Sunday Funday quickly became a tradition and remains a South Dakota favorite at Waddy’s Bar & Grill to this day. As its popularity grew, the specialty mix was eventually offered for off-sale so customers could enjoy it at home.

Over the years, customers have continued to rave about the Best. Damn. Bloody. Ever. Demand for Chief’s Bloody Mary Mix reached an all-time high between 2019 and 2021, which led to the launch of a retail manufacturing facility in May of 2022. Every batch is still handmade as distribution continues to expand across the Midwest. Chief’s Bloody Mary has also gained regional and national attention as a one-of-a-kind mix, competing in Bloody Mary competitions in Texas, Colorado, Wisconsin, North Dakota, and even New York. 

Chief’s Bloody Mary Mix isn’t your traditional Bloody Mary mix. It’s a signature blend of sauces and secret spices that hits every taste bud and keeps you coming back for more.”

Larry “Chief” Plendl

1944-2024

Larry “Chief” will be fondly remembered for his iconic Chief’s Bloody Mary Mix and his boundless enthusiasm for sharing it-one glass at a time. He kept perfecting them right up until his final day in Hudson on August 1, 2024. His warmth, generosity, and love of good company touched all who knew him; he will be deeply missed.
